Blogging about a celebrity houseboat - not a celebrity's, but a celebrity.... hmmm
not my listing, but yes the house that Tom Hanks stepped foot in is listed!

Apparently, it is also our breaking news around Seattle!
Does the fact that it is the house that parts of Sleepless In Seattle was filmed in make a difference? Does the fact that Tom Hanks was here really make it over two million? It is definitely one of the very best houseboats out there, and what a great spot on Lake Union in Westlake.

About Me:
Seattle real estate has been a big part of my life for well over a decade since I began my career in real estate, but also before that time when I was in the process of purchasing my own first home. Buying your first home can be quite overwhelming, but I have managed to help many first time home buyers along the way.
Move up Seattle buyers and other types of specialized purchasing is a great passion of mine! I love Seattle houseboats and you can find me down on the docks of Lake Union and Portage Bay several times a week. Other aspects of Seattle real estate that I adore include Queen Anne Real Estate,Wallingford Real Estate, Ballard Real Estate, Green Lake Real Estate, Laurelhurst Real Estate, Magnolia Real Estate, andSeattle Waterfront Real Estate.
In addition to being a Seattle residential broker and founder of Cooper Jacobs & Seattle Afloat, I am also a member of CBA (Commercial Brokers Association) and head of the Cooper Jacobs Commercial Division in an effort to provide excellent commercial real estate services to the Seattle commercial real estate industry. With a background in accounting and management, it is my great pleasure to coordinate our Seattle commercial brokers.

Courtney, I've blogged about other people's listings a couple of times. One involved a house that Richard Nixon used to live in when he was vice-president. And I'm pretty sure I didn't get the agent's permission. But I made it clear that it wasn't my listing.
I'm not sure how they presented it, because I couldn't get in on the link - they may have taken it down. What i think isn't OK is writing about another agent's listing, without permission, in a way that solicits buyers and gives the impression it's yours.
Courtney - I would never blog about a listing without permission. I would even want that in writing after the huge fines that one agent received last month. Redfin is a real estate firm - they would fall under this rule, Zillow doesn't handle real estate transactions so would be exempt from the rule - if you are a member of the NWMLS then you can't and if you aren't you can - How I would love that house!!
Hi Courtney,
If blogging is promoting/advertising another's listing, then yes I do feel permission is requied. It's been discussed here in the Rain at least a few times. For me as a broker-owner if any of my agents wanted to blog/promot/advertise another's listing I would require authorization to do so in writing from the listing broker.
BTW, I have used a few other REALTOR'S listings on specific sites at times, with permission and we're not identified at listing agent, yet as hosting agent.
Courney, In March there were 2 agents that were fined for this practice. You also must have it in writing. I am sending you an email about one ;)
Courtney- Our MLS permission to advertise another agents listing to be in writing. It can be an email or a letter on file. One brokerage sends an email to me immediately after I list a property asking my permission to advertise it. A reply is all that is required for the brokerage to advertise.
Redfin was fined a large 5 figures for advertising without permission recently. I would not want that fine!
Best,
Scott
