Seattle WA floating homes are a great waterfront real estate option in Seattle! Lake Union has its own special attractions and people who live on the lake love it! Living on a Seattle houseboat might be one of the most thought about options for people when they are pondering waterfront homes in Seattle!
These homes offer a wide variety of living plans and the quarters are almost tight, but wouldn't it be great to truly be on the Seattle waterfront? One of the most asked questions I get is, "Do they move with the water?" The answer is yes and how much depends on how far down the dock you are. Houseboats on the end of the dock cost more and offer more open views typically, but they do rock back and forth quite a bit more and definitely when a boat passes by. There is less rock closer in to land.
Seattle offers lots of waterfront living, but I love this option the best!
People always love looking at houseboats and I have had fun showing them. They are the ideal Seattle, Washington lifestyle for many people and one of the first things tourists think about for our city!
A couple funny things that happened to me at an open house for a floating home in Eastlake: One lady got a little sea sick even though the home was fairly close in on the dock. Another visitor asked about the plumbing. Yes, there is a sewer line that goes down the dock! These are floating homes, not vessels.
While showing a Seattle houseboat once, I dropped the key into Lake Union. The listing agent wasn't thrilled with me, and I was embarrassed, but he could have put a float on it was my thought.
Living in a very close knit waterfront neighborhood...
Everyone pretty much knows everyone on a dock and neighbors watch out for others. If you want privacy, this might not be the best option. This might not be the most ideal solution for Seattle waterfront homes if you like to be alone, but watching the world go by and being in the middle of it all would be the great appeal for most people!

Seattle real estate has been a big part of my life for well over a decade since I began my career in real estate, but also before that time when I was in the process of purchasing my own first home. Buying your first home can be quite overwhelming, but I have managed to help many first time home buyers along the way.
Move up Seattle buyers and other types of specialized purchasing is a great passion of mine! I love Seattle houseboats and you can find me down on the docks of Lake Union and Portage Bay several times a week. Other aspects of Seattle real estate that I adore include Queen Anne Real Estate,Wallingford Real Estate, Ballard Real Estate, Green Lake Real Estate, Laurelhurst Real Estate, Magnolia Real Estate, andSeattle Waterfront Real Estate.
In addition to being a Seattle residential broker and founder of Cooper Jacobs & Seattle Afloat, I am also a member of CBA (Commercial Brokers Association) and head of the Cooper Jacobs Commercial Division in an effort to provide excellent commercial real estate services to the Seattle commercial real estate industry. Congratulations on having this post mentioned in Bob Stewart's post about hyper-local content. I'll bet you thought no one was reading it, since there haven't been comments before this.
whoo hoo! I didn't know:) Thanks!
Courtney, I stopped by because of Bob's reference to your post. I loved reading about the Seattle floating homes. Would love to visit one, if I ever get out there. A novel idea - attaching keys to floats. Love it!
Courtney,
Great post. It's no wonder Bob chose it as an example. I even stopped by the web links to dream big about a Seattle waterfront home.
Hi Leah and Bran:) Thanks for stopping in! I am glad he did mention my post - I love sharing info about the floating homes in Eastlake:) Seattle housboats in general are just beautiful and the lifestyle is perfect for some!
Found you from Bob Stewart's post... I got a chuckle out of dropping the key.
Hi Kathyrn - yes, that was not one of my finer moments in showing houseboats:)
I found you from Bob's post. I agree the listing agent should have foreseen key drop issues.
I have tried a traditional float on my floating home listing and they don't fit very well in the keybox, but the key is attached securely to the compartment which won't fit through the holes in the deck:)
Hi Courtney
Found you from Bob's post. Great post you had. No wonder Bob mentioned it. I will reblog this one and use it as reference for local hyper post and ranking on G.
thanks
Hi Jimmy - thanks - Bob is a great supporter and has been so helpful to me through the years. Happy holidays!
