According to the Parks historical data, in 1892 it was suggested to the city of Seattle that they purchase Bailey Peninsula by EO Schwagerl and many people thought that it was way too far away from the city to be considered as a park land. The Olmsted Brothers who were responsible for so many of our parks and the majority of the park system in and around Seattle agreed with Schwagerl and included the Bailey Peninsula purchase in their overall Seattle parks plan in 1903. The peninsula was purchased in 1911for a sum of $322,000 and named after the secretary of state responsible for the Alaskan purchase, William H Seward.
