Volunteer Park in Capitol Hill

Volunteer Park is one of my favorite parks in Seattle - Seattle skylineI love the wide variety of activities there and it is a great place just to take a stroll around on a nice day.

Curious what you will see if you venture to climb to the top of the water tower in Seattle's Volunteer Park?  Look at this gorgeous view!

Seattle is filled with parks, but if you get a chance to visit Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill, do take advantage of it!  Make sure to drive through and see the gorgeous historic homes in this area as well.

Capitol Hill SeattleThis is one of Seattle's original neighborhoods and it is worth a look!

Seward Park in Seattle

seattle real estateSeward Park in Seattle

Seattle is full of amazing parks thanks to the forward thinking of many of our founders over a hundred years ago.  Seward Park is just one of those wonderful parks which is rich with history!  Seward Park in Seattle is 300 acres of forested park land IN CITY!

Seward Park Hours
Every day from 6 AM to 11 PM

What can you find there?

Old growth forest, hiking trails including a 2.4 mile bike and walking trail! Eagles nesting, The Seward Park Environmental & Audubon Center, an amphitheater and more!

Residents lucky enough to live in the Seward Park neighborhood find themselves in close proximity to an amazing park in Seattle!  The history is of course wonderful as well!  According to the Parks historical data, in 1892 it was suggested to the city of Seattle that they purchase Bailey Peninsula by EO Schwagerl and many people thought that it was way too far away from the city to be considered as a park land.  The Olmsted Brothers who were responsible for so many of our parks and the majority of the park system in and around Seattle agreed with Schwagerl and included the Bailey Peninsula purchase in their overall Seattle parks plan in 1903.  The peninsula was purchased in 1911for a sum of $322,000 and named after the secretary of state responsible for the Alaskan purchase, William H Seward.

Parks Improve Your Home Value! PLEASE Support the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy!

seattle parksI had the pleasure of attending a Seattle Parks Foundation Celebration a couple weekends ago and I can not emphasize how important parks are to Seattle and to the home values overall!  Parks are amazing to have and the extra bonus?  Parks increase home values.  It is that simple.  With that, I ask you to please contribute to the Seattle Parks Foundation in their latest effort:

From Karen Duabert  Co-Chair of The Green Spaces Levy Campaign:

"Eight years ago, Seattle voters passed the 2000 Pro Parks Levy which continued the Seattle legacy of quality parks and green spaces started by the Olmsted firm in 1903. That levy is expiring this year, and I am writing to ask for your support for the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy.

Today the success of the 2000 levy is clear. Over eight years, the $198 million levy funded 140 acquisition and development projects throughout Seattle, adding more than 42 acres of parks and green space and leveraging more than $28 million in funding for additional improvements.

You can help maintain Seattle's quality of life by providing the recreational, natural, and open spaces that make our city great.

Show your support today for the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy! Click here to contribute now!

The 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy will provide over $145 million for Seattle green spaces, including the projects below and many more major improvements to our parklands:

  • New parks in urban villages
  • Green space acquisition
  • 23 playground renovations
  • 4 sports field upgrades
  • Essential infrastructure for cultural facilities in public parks
  • Multiple stream and forest restorations
  • Green connections enhancements

The cost is only $81/year to the average homeowner, $30 less annually than the expiring levy.

The time is right, but we need your help.

The 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy campaign grew from the grassroots, and financial support from citizens like you will help leave a legacy of great parks, active playfields, healthy habitats, and green connections for future Seattleites.

Your contribution today is vital - whether you can give $50, $500, or $5,000 - to support the campaign for the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy.

For more information about the campaign and the levy - including an interactive map with levy-funded parks projects - visit our website: www.SeattleParksForAll.org.  Thank you!"
