Seattle Going Green Remodeling For More Green!

seattle remodelingSeattle Going Green For More Green....

Seattle real estate is big on building green right now and I am thrilled for it!  I am a member of Built Green and always looking for Built Green properties for my buyers, but also existing homes that have been remodeled green.

I love taking Seattle buyers out and having them "ooh and awe" over the finish work that goes into a Built Green home.  Most of the time these environmentally conscience builders are so detail oriented that it really shows in the final product!

Can a Remodel Be Green?

What about when a Seattle seller decides to remodel their existing home to incorporate some of these amazing new earth friendly and efficient, but sometimes expensive products?

Of course the home will become more efficient and cheaper to operate while having a lesser impact on the environment in most cases, but can this cash outlay come back in return on investment financially when they decide to sell?  I was surprised to see that the Master Builders Association does indeed have a Built Green Remodeling Checklist!  This is a huge advantage for a savvy Seattle seller who wants to market his home as remodeled to the Built Green standards!

Buying homes that are built green is big business and could have a significant effect on the demand for a property.

Seattle : Tips On Having a Green Holiday Season! (Part 1)

seattle go greenI know it is early, but since the holiday stuff is popping up in the stores everywhere, I figured I better get this in!  I have a lot of tips this year on having a green holiday, but this is a biggie and I am loving it!

Switch to Holiday LED Lights!!!!!

I had no idea that the newer Holiday LED Lights were so great!!!!  I knew they were wonderful, but had no idea just how much of an impact they can make.   If you can find the solar LED lights, too, then I will be in awe of you so let me know where you found them and how much, PLEASE.

OK - so here is the skinny on going green for the holidays by using LED light strings instead of the regular fire hazard energy guzzling lights:

The LEDs use a fraction of the energy of regular strings of lights and according to the info I found can last between 100,000 and 200,000 hours.  That is a long time for less refuse and less energy used.

But this is the really cool part:

You can use up to 20 strings together on one circuit!!!!!!  I am no electricity expert and as a result I am constantly shorting out strings of lights because I piggy back too many together so this is good news!

Other benefits?

Cool to the touch and the whole string stays lit even when a bulb is out so no more guessing at that!

Where to buy?

Bartell's!!!!  I love Bartell Drug Stores!  The recycle CFL bulbs for free starting this month and they sell these for $10-$15 for a string of 70 lights.

Go green for the holidays!!!!!  Are you interested in Green Seattle real estate?  Cooper Jacobs is a member of Built Green and Seattle Realtor Courtney Cooper is also working on an ECOBROKER designation.  If you have green holiday suggestions, please email them to realestate@cooperjacobs.com

Seattle Real Estate: Looking For New Green Built Homes?

seattle real estateSeattle real estate is on the move as far as "Built Green" goes!

If a Seattle buyer wants a home that is environmentally friendly and efficient, then there are fortunately options in both the Seattle townhouse 2008 market and also single family houses.  It seems as if builders are really starting to understand what modern savvy buyers want and the real estate available is beginning to reflect this.

Building green is more than just using energy efficient appliances!

It is even more than Bamboo flooring or highly efficient windows.  There are dual flush toilets, low toxin paints, recycled glass and tiles, plus a whole set of guidelines about percentages of carpeting in building, garage sizes, etc.  There is actually a  whole matrix of different things builders can do to determine how green their home is!  Careful consideration should be taken as to placement on lot, landscaping, materials used, etc., but check out the list to see how in depth these green homes can be!

I am excited to see some of these wonderful environmentally friendly building techniques in Seattle!

I love the idea of solar powered water heaters and Bamboo flooring in Seattle! I love that a builder gets extra points for putting in a food waste and compost bin or worm bin instead of a garbage disposal.  Check out the list before you go visit some of these properties!  There are wonderful built green properties out there, but knowing how green they are will often have a high impact on your ability to enjoy them.
